Ville Raasakka works with material ecology in musical composition. He is interested in how certain materials (wood, coal, oil) are formed, extracted (forestry, mining), used as energy (heating, transport, industry), as commercial products (packaging, chemicals, plastics) and how they disperse (as carbon compounds and microplastics). His orchestral work gained a recommendation at the prestigious International Rostrum of Composers in 2019 in Argentina. He has been commissioned by the Gaudeamus Muziekweek (The Netherlands), Royaumont (France) and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. His works have been performed at the most prominent new music festivals around the world, such as Eclat (Stuttgart), Klang (Copenhagen), Archipel (Geneva), June in Buffalo (US) and the Bifem Festival (Bendigo, Australia). Mise-En Ensemble (New York) performed his works in a portrait concert in Seoul (South Korea) in 2018.
