Bio

Péter Ajtai is a member of the generation of radical young jazz musicians, who reject conventions while play their instruments at the highest level, and are very much aware of their cultural heritage. Despite his young age, bass player Ajtai is strongly present on the Hungarian avant-garde music scene. The principle of his music lies in creating music where theoretical, intellectual, technical and aesthetic elements form a unique combination within the improvisatory musical language he speaks at a native level. He has played with many important musicians in the European and Hungarian free jazz scenes.
He is also a PhD student at ELTE where his ambitious dissertation project is writing the “history of improvisatory music” and developing the aesthetics of free improvised music.
